Jewelry Care
Caring for Your Pearls
With a little gentle attention, your jewelry will keep its soft glow for many occasions to come. These simple habits are kind to pearls, charms, stones and metal details alike.
Caring for Your Pearls
-
01
Gentle cleaning
After wearing, wipe each piece with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove skin oils and makeup. Avoid jewelry cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, brushes and abrasive cloths, which can dull a pearl’s surface.
-
02
Last on, first off
Put your jewelry on after perfume, hairspray, lotion and makeup have settled, and take it off before you remove your makeup. Cosmetics and chemicals can affect the lustre of pearls and the finish of metal details.
-
03
Keep it dry
Remove your jewelry before swimming, bathing, showering or exercising, and before cleaning with household products. If a piece gets wet, pat it dry gently and let it air dry fully before storing.
-
04
Thoughtful storage
Store each piece on its own in a soft pouch or fabric-lined box so harder stones and metal can’t scratch the pearls. Lay strands flat rather than hanging them, and keep them away from direct sunlight and heat.
-
05
Protecting delicate surfaces
Pearls are softer than most gemstones. Avoid knocks against hard surfaces, and take off rings and bracelets for tasks like gardening, lifting or cleaning.
-
06
Clasps and metal details
Fasten and unfasten clasps gently, holding the clasp rather than pulling on the strand. Check clasps, rings and links from time to time, and stop wearing a piece if anything feels loose.
